When we paste labels, we need to use a variety of adhesives to make the labels stick firmly to the surface of the item. But when removing the labels, these glue residues can cause us a lot of headaches. Because these residues can catch dust or hide things, making the surface of the item dirty. The most straightforward way we can think of to remove residue is to use our own fingers. This method is of course also very effective when the glue viscosity is not so strong. We can rub repeatedly on the residue to form a small ball that can be removed. We can also rub a little water with our fingers and rub it repeatedly, so that it is easy to tear off.

1. Heat
We can directly use a lighter or a hair dryer to heat the self-adhesive label to dissolve the glue. When the label is exposed to heat, it is easy to peel it off completely.
2. Water
If there is no lighter, we can soak the labeled item in warm water for a while, and put a little dish soap or soapy water. Soak for about 30 minutes and wait until the self-adhesive label is completely softened, then wipe it with your hands, and the residual adhesive will easily fall off.
3. Alcohol
We can use medicinal alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or regular potable alcohol (such as vodka).
First, use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol and apply it evenly on the self-adhesive label; then let it stand for 3 minutes to let the alcohol completely penetrate into the label; finally, use tweezers to slowly tear off the label from one corner. Or use your fingers or a plastic scraper to remove any residual adhesive soaked in alcohol.
Note: Avoid sweetened or flavored alcohol, as the sugar will make it more sticky.
4. Edible oil
Most cooking oils will also help remove gum stains, but olive or vegetable oil is better. We can try some oil on a small area now to see if it leaves a stain. If there is no trace, we can pour a little oil on a paper towel or a clean rag. Cover the area with a paper towel or rag and let it sit for a few minutes. Then remove the paper towel and use your fingers or a plastic scraper to scrape off the remaining adhesive.
5. White vinegar
If there is white vinegar at home, we can soak the paper towel in white vinegar, then cover it on the label for about 20 minutes, and then wipe it repeatedly to remove the remaining glue stains. Of course, in addition to the methods mentioned above, we can also use some cleaning agents to remove glue stains, such as: deodorant, perfume, nail polish remover, lighter fuel and so on. But be aware that the more ingredients a product contains, the more likely it is to leave marks on absorbent surfaces such as fibres, plastics and wood. Regarding the tools for removing glue stains, in addition to our hands, we can also use plastic tableware, used credit or bank cards or special plastic paint scrapers.
